freesshd not closing terminal window. 04-12-2008 07:55
Hi everyone,

I had a win2003 server with Cygwin sshd setup to use unison over ssh for backup.. I had it working via pub cert just fine and it was all working though rather slow. It starts, does a bitwise syncro, returns the console and then closes... this will be running on users machines on logoff. Slow but perfect.

In the hunt for better performance with unison over ssh.. I disabled the cygwin ssh service and installed freesshd to see if it was faster. (hard to tell, but thus far it seems faster) I have it all working with freesshd and cert auth, but when using unison over freesshd when the batch file controlling the connection is run, it completes, but doesn't return and close like it did with cygwin sshd.

Basically, as it stands now, the machines will never shutdown because the timeout has to run out first and there is no way to tell at what point it should time out as backup sizes vary (currently set to 2500 seconds).

Also, if we are talking windows to windows though put, that is the best command line client to use with freesshd? I'm currently using the ssh client from cygwin on the remote machines (unison is fiddley to get working with putty, expecially when it needs to be setup on a couple of hundred machines)

I'm using blowfish for speed... anything else I can do to increase thoughput on file transfers? Does freesshd have any of the hpn-ssh work in it?

any help would be much appreciated..

regards

Frank

I've solved all my other issues, but I can't figure out why the command to ssh doesn't close after completion like it did with cygwin sshd..

I'd love some suggestions.
