How to activate logging 07-07-2005 17:57
Hi, I'm testing freeFTPd on a 2003 server.
I've activated only the SFTP part and told it
to start as a service.
After every boot I start and stop the service from
the MS-Windows Service panel and I get the icon (i've
seen this is a current feature of the software).
My problem is that I can't connect to the server.
I've defined a user, tied the service to a local IP,
generated both a rsa and a dsa host key but the message
I get from the client is:
Server responded "Could not use server's key. Please contact
server administrator to generate new key.".
The remote host key could not be verified.

All I can find in the log is:
07-07-2005 17:50:47 IP 192.168.194.128 SFTP connection attempt
07-07-2005 17:50:47 IP 192.168.194.128 SFTP disconnected

How can i get a detailed log of the connection the way openssh does?
How can i debug what really happens?
Best Regards
federico

You've generated the key and they don't work??? What client are you using?

Sorry but there's no advanced logging available at the moment.
You're right about server 2003 and freeftpd icon. Can't really tell right now why's that happening, but I noticed some other software having the same issue.

Server responded "Could not use server's key. Please contact
server administrator to generate new key.".
The remote host key could not be verified.

I had this error using an old windoze ssh/sftp client from ssh.com
This is a problem with your client.... as the problem would also occur when logging on to an ssh/sftp server on my Debian 3.1 linux box as well as logging into freeFTPd.

I never find out exactly what was causing the problem, but downloading the latest windoze client from ssh.com (or using putty) made it go away :-)
