FIREWALL? 29-05-2005 03:49
First, I am sure I am not the only one with the issue of firewall port forwarding. I have forwarded 21 and 22 from my Linksys Router/Firewall and can get full connectivity from behind the firewall, but not from the outside. What ports did I miss?

Secondly, can this server peacefully cohabitate with a webserver and SMTP mail server on the same machine? There seems to be a localhost conflict. Both the web service and SMTP mail servers still work, but the FTPd does not. I am hoping it is the firewall and not a cohabitation issue.

Hi BIGJOHN,

You must use FTP forwarding, not the regular one, since the FTP protocol requires creating separate TCP connections for the files to be transferred, as these separate TCP connections would not be forwarded automatically.

The connection on port 21 is just for authentication and sending FTP commands.

Hope this helps :)

I understand the issue, since we are also having it and have not solved it yet. But have not seen the reference to "ftp forwarding" before and wonder if you could explain what this is and how to initiate/setup this feature?

thanks, ron....
